Her tips:
1. Know the difference between the networks.
a. Facebook = Personal Space
b. LinkedIn = Business Networking Event
c. Twitter = Tool used for communication – not a “home base”
2. LinkedIn Profile is not your resume.
It should speak directly to your customer – job seekers must speak to the type of company they want to work for.
a. Profile must have headshot
b. Current contact info including email
c. Summary that speaks directly to who you want to talk to
3. Do your connections know you? Connect with those who know, like and trust you. Make sure your connections know who you are or they cannot refer you.
4. Follow companies you have an interest in. See who works there. Support them by “liking” and/or “sharing” content your connections find valuable.
5. You must join and PARTICIPATE in groups. You can’t end up on anyone’s radar if you’re never at the networking event so schedule at least an hour a week to show up to the LinkedIn Business event.
“Like” what your customers/prospects/potential employers may like – not what YOU like. You are there to support others at the networking event, not advertise and promote your skills.
