JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. – Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies began what they called a ‘grid-like’ search Tuesday afternoon after two hunters found a human skull in rural Johnson County on Monday.
According to the sheriff’s office, two men were were looking for deer antlers in an area west of Gardner, Kan. at 215th Street and Gardner Road around 3:30 p.m. Monday when they found the skull.
Sheriff’s officials said their team would search the surrounding woods near where the skull was found in an effort to find more human remains.
Authorities wouldn’t say how long they suspected the skull had been there, and they said they did not yet know if the skull was that of a man or a woman or child.
The sheriff’s office said they were investigating how the remains got to the area and to begin the identification process.
