COLUMBIA, Mo. — An iconic restaurant in mid-Missouri is set to be razed for redevelopment.
Shakespeare’s Pizza is a well-known restaurant for University of Missouri and Stephens College students in downtown Columbia, but it will be moving to a temporary location while its original spot gets a makeover.
Crews will demolish the building and build a new one as part of a multi-story development. Shakespeare’s is expected to move back in by the summer of 2016. In the meantime, the pizza place will be open about a block away on south Eighth Street.
Proprietors say they’re working on preserving the look and feel of the space so that customers will feel familiar when it reopens. Furthermore, the original ovens and dough machines will still be used according to the restaurant.
