INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — A 52-year-old man, charged with attempted forcible sodomy, attempted statutory sodomy and sexual misconduct with a child, declared his innocence on his way into Jackson County Court Thursday.
“Since you’re all watching, I declare myself innocent so you’ll know,” Norman Davis said, stopping for reporters’ cameras.
Police say Davis tried at least seven times to get children into his car by offering them money or marijuana in return for sex. The victims all range in age from 12 to 14, and the incidents have all taken place within an eight block area near Truman Road and Lee’s Summit Road.
While police say Davis admitted going to Independence, Mo., twice a month for last eight to nine months looking for sex, Davis told them he did not know the children he approached were minors.
Police, though, say he has tried at least seven times to get children into his car.
Court records show in at least one case, Davis drove a 14-year-old boy to a location against his will. The man then exposed himself to the teen and asked him to touch his genitals.
Davis was arrested after an 18-year-old man says Davis gave the man his name and phone number in case he “changed his mind” about sex.
The Jackson County judge set his bond at $100,000 cash and ordered him to have no contact with children.
