INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Independence Police are investigating an accident that left one person dead early Monday morning.
The accident took place near 18th Terrace and Holke Road. Police said they heard reports of the accident just after 2:50 a.m.
Police said the driver was traveling northbound on Holke Road when his vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle traveled through a field and then crashed into a tree.
Police said the driver was transported to the hospital to be treated for what they believed were non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger, a 19-year-old Blue Springs man, died from injuries sustained during the crash.
Investigators said they are still trying to determine what caused the vehicle to travel off of the roadway.
Police said they are waiting to release the name of the victim until they notify all family members.
