SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Purple Heart veteran said what happened to him at the Sacramento Airport when he went through security was humiliating and ridiculous.
Cpl. Nathan Kemnitz, 29, from Pasadena, Calif. was flying to Sacramento to be honored for his service in Iraq. Airport security stopped him because he was ‘wearing too much metal’, according to the Huffington Post.
Kemnitz was injured by a roadside bomb in 2004 and is blind in his right eye and has limited use of his right arm.
Security asked him to remove his uniform jacket and when he explained his difficulty, there was a heated exchange.
“It’s almost like they wanted to make a show, like we will search anybody, we don’t care,” Cpl. Nathan Kemnitz said.
The Military Times reports that the TSA security screener looked under the marine’s medals, searched his waistband and swabbed his shoes for explosives.
