KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jurors in the Jacole Prince trial may get the case Friday.
Prince faces charges for abusing her 10-year-old daughter by locking her in a closet.
During day four of the trial, the jurors heard medical testimony about the 10-year-old’s condition as well as her mother’s mental health.
Both sides rested at the end of the day but jurors are expected to hear from one more witness Friday before getting the case.
Prince faces child endangerment and abuse charges for neglecting her daughter who is being referred to as “LP”.
A psychologist took the stand to describe prince’s mental health saying she suffered from a lifelong depression. The state called one doctor who took the stand and said “LP” will be on heart medicine the rest of her and may need another heart transplant because of her treatment, but a doctor for the defense disagreed.
“I can’t draw that conclusion in this case at all,” Dr. Janice Ophoven said. “What is not my opinion is that it is exclusively due to chronic malnutrition.”
Prince could faces more than a dozen years behind bars if convicted of the three charges she faces.
