LAWRENCE, Kan. — No. 8 Kansas needed a strong closing kick to beat West Virginia 83-69. The victory combined with K-State’s win over second-place Texas cushions KU’s Big 12 lead to two games. The Jayhawks are 18-5 overall and 9-1 in the Big 12.

The Mountaineers wouldn’t go quietly. They stayed within striking distance for most of the game. They cut the KU to four with five minutes to play. But the Hawks put them away for good with a 7-0 spurt.

Andrew Wiggins led the way with a team-high 19 points. Wayne Selden added 17. Joel Embiid posted another double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Jayhawks head over to Manhattan to take on K-State on Big Monday.
