KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Larneal Davis, 28, appeared in court on Monday to face charges relating to the deadly crash that killed a crime lab technician last month.
Davis faces five counts, including involuntary manslaughter and leaving the scene of the crash.
Prosecutors say Davis was speeding when he hit Michael Chou’s car as Chou was getting off an overnight shift.
The judge described Davis as a prior and persistent offender before setting the next court date.
Family members told FOX 4 off-camera that the media is portraying Davis as a monster when instead this was just a tragic accident.
Michael Chou was 29-years old at the time of his death and had worked for the Kansas City, Mo. Police Dept. for two years. The impact of the crash split Chou’s Honda Civic in half.
According to police, Davis fled the scene on foot, but was later arrested. Davis will be in court again on September 13th at 9 a.m.
