KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A Wyandotte County jury found George Lingenfelser, 29, of Bonner Springs, Kan., guilty of second degree murder for killing his girlfriend on December 7, 2014, in a Lowe’s parking lot located at 6900 State Avenue.

Lingenfelser was originally charged with first-degree murder for shooting Janet Billings shortly before noon on that Sunday in December, when other customers were present in the parking lot.

Janet Billings was 29-years-old.

“We’re not going to have a wedding for her, we’re not going to have nieces or nephews or none of that. It’s all been taken from us,” R.J. Billings, the victim’s brother said after she was killed.

The jury deliberated for more than 11 hours over three days before finding Lingenfelser guilty of second-degree murder.

On March 3, Lingenfelser was sentenced to 15 ½ years in prison.
