RENO COUNTY, Kan. – A man serving time until at least 2023 escaped from a minimum security prison on Saturday. Mark Edward Lucas walked out of the central Hutchinson Correctional Facility at about 2 p.m. on Saturday according to Jeremy Barclay, Communications Director with the Kansas Department of Corrections.
Lucas is serving time on aggravated burglary and theft convictions from Shawnee County, Kan. He was transferred to the central Hutchinson facility from the eastern facility on July 15, 2013. Records cited he was disciplined for poor work performance at the eastern facility.
The central correctional facility is about three-and-a-half hours southwest of Kansas City, Barclay said that there are officers pursuing active leads in an attempt to make a safe apprehension. He did not say whether Lucas had an accomplice or an intricate plan.
According to KDOC records, Lucas has a lengthy prison history, with incarcerations going back as far as October of 1997 on a variety of theft and burglary convictions. He has multiple aliases, including: Patsy Boone, Jerry Downs and Mark Majors according to prison records. If you see him, call 911 immediately.
