MOUND CITY, Kan. — A Linn County father is in custody, accused of beating his three-month old baby daughter.

Danny Sumter, 30, is charged in Linn County, about 80 miles south of Kansas City, with aggravated battery and child abuse. His daughter named Phoenix is recovering at Children’s Mercy Hospital.
Phoenix’s mom says Phoenix was only with Sumter for 20 minutes, and in that time, she says he shook her violently and threw her to the ground; accusations Sumter denies.
Misti Feris says initially Sumter blamed the dog and even accused Phoenix’s 15-month-old big brother of hurting her. She claims he ‘snapped’ because Phoenix wouldn’t stop crying.
“He brought her up to me basically lifeless, I performed CPR while someone else called the ambulance. Now we`re here,” said Feris.
Feris says because of Sumter’s lies, Child Protective Services took away her three other children and left her unable to visit Phoenix for a time. FOX 4’s Judy Le reached out to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and to the Linn County District Attorney for more information, but they did not supply any additional information about the case beyond the charges against Sumter. His bond is set at $250,000.
