KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City is on another Best and Worst List. The numbers aren’t good.
This time, Men’s Health Magazine’s best and worst cities for the health of men. Kansas City was ranked number 80 in 2011. For 2012, the city slipped to number 91 out of 100.
“It’s hard to take in but there’s a huge part of me that doesn’t believe it,” said Micah LeCerte with Hitchfit.
Michah LaCerte is a workout fiend. It’s not only his life but his livelihood.
“We started Hitchfit here and stayed here for that one reason, to flip this city into a fitness city,” LaCerte said.
If more KC men were as passionate as he is about fitness, it could men a rise in the rankings. Men’s Health based the list on 35 categories that included factors like exercise, the job market and various health conditions.
Then they tossed in stats from the CDC and FBI and that’s how the City of Fountains ended up at 91.
“I don’t know if they are picking on us,” LaCerte said. “I dont know if it’s legit, but look around you how many people do you see that are extremely fit in this town??”
LaCerte says if you start with diet and exercise, it helps with health issues like Diabetes and Heart Disease. That will help you feel better about going to work or finding work.
FOX 4 asked LaCerte if he thinks we will ever get a better ranking.
“It will happen, one way or the other,” he said. “As an individual, I can’t do it but as a team we can move mountains.”
Burlington, Vermont came in at number one with Memphis, Tennessee coming in at number 100.
