The Department of Missouri Corrections executed a Kansas City man overnight for the 1989 murder of 15-year-old Ann Harrison.
Michael Taylor, 47, was executed by lethal injection at midnight on Feb. 26, 2014. He is the fourth person in four months to be executed in the state of Missouri.
Federal courts and Missouri Governor Jay Nixon refused last-minute appeals from his attorneys, who argued the drug Missouri uses in its executions could cause Taylor inhumane pain and suffering. However, people present at Taylor’s execution said there were no obvious signs of distress.
Twenty five years ago a jury convicted Taylor in Harrison’s death. Another man, Roderick Nunley, was also convicted and remains on death row.
The men were found guilty of kidnapping 15-year-old Harrison while she waited for her school bus at 67th and Booth on Kansas City’s east side in 1989. Taylor and Nunley later raped and killed her.
