KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting. Police said they received calls around 9 p.m. Saturday night about shots fired in the area of 44th Street in Kansas City, Mo.
They said they received another call about a possible suicidal man near the 500 block of Northeast Greenfield Road. When officers arrived, they said a man was in the front yard of a residence pointing a gun at them.
“As the officers moved toward that residence they encountered a subject in the front yard,” said Ty Grant, Kansas City police captain. “He was armed with a gun and he pointed a gun at the officers and the officers fired.”
Police believe the man shot several cars and a home before they arrived. Captain Grant said he does not know if the 911 call for a suicidal person came from the man himself or from another person in the area. Grant said police received several 911 calls.
Justin Sanborn lives a few houses down from where the shooting took place.
“We were actually turning out of 45th Street down here and there was an ambulance that came flying down North Oak as we were turning out,” he said.
Officers said the man pointed a gun at police, but did not fire. No officers were hurt. The man has not yet been identified by police.
