KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Millions of fans will fill out brackets for March Madness. At the Kansas City Public Library book worms are making picks of their own called “Booketology.”

Forget basketball. From the hardwood to the history aisle, for book lovers March is all about romance, thrillers and mysteries.

“Not everybody is a sports fan so this is something for our patrons who come in who enjoy to read this is something for them to do if they’re not into doing the sports bracket,” said Jerena Boyd Bey of the KC Public Library.

32 fan favorites are battling it out to make it to the ‘Sweet 16’ in the library’s Spring Tournament of Books.

“There’s a lot of new books on there, there’s some classics, they’ll definitely recognize something on the list,” said Boyd Bey.

Names on jerseys don’t matter here. Names like Alcott, White and Melville do though.

“I saw this list I’m a fan of the classic Charlotte’s Web but I also am a big fan of Enders Game,” said Body Bey.

And everyone has one going all the way.

“You can never read too much, you can never be too young or too old for books, that’s a good thing,” she said.

So may the best book win.

Results of round one of the Spring Tournament of Books will be posted Tuesday.
