Hundreds of hospitalized Kansas City-area children will receive special toy deliveries this holiday season, thanks to the annual Trooper Michael L. Newton Memorial Toy Fund. Metro-area Krispy Kreme Doughnut stores will serve as a drop-off location for the toy drive.
This annual toy drive is a metro-wide campaign to benefit children spending the holiday season in the hospital. It honors the memory of Missouri State Trooper Michael L. Newton, who was tragically killed in May 2003 while on duty.
During the drive, Krispy Kreme will give away a free dozen glazed doughnuts to anyone who donates a new toy with a value of $10 or more. In late December, Kansas and Missouri troopers will personally deliver the toys to children hospitalized at KU Medical Center and families staying at the Ronald McDonald House over the holidays.
The Fund is a cooperative effort between the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Kansas Highway Patrol, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and citizens.
Monetary donations can be made to the Missouri State Trooper’s Association at 504 SE Blue Parkway, Lee’s Summit, Mo., 64063 or the Kansas State Trooper’s Association at 1200 SW 10th Avenue,Topeka, Kan. 66604-1204.
