TOPEKA, Kan. — Kansas officials have notified the company that installed its new motor vehicle system that they won’t be paying the final 10 percent of the bill until the problems are fixed, the Topeka Capital Journal reports.
Long lines continue even though the new software was installed seven weeks ago. Kansas bought the system from 3M Co. for $40 million.
The Kansas Department of Revenue notified the 3M Co. Thursday that it needs to improve the new software.
According to the Topeka Capital Journal in its CJOnline report, Donna Shelite, the state director of vehicles, told the Shawnee County Commission that about 73,000 records didn’t convert correctly to the new system and that 3M Co. has been told to find an answer for the software bugs and response times.
Meanwhile, Kansas is hiring more workers to staff DMV locations. They will spend about $833,000 to hire 16 new employees.
