KANSAS CITY, Mo. — David Murdick pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter in the first degree in Jackson County court on Friday for the deadly crash that killed Missouri Department of Transportation worker Clifton Scott.
Murdick could face a potential sentence of five to 15 years.
Clifton Scott, a 15-year veteran with MoDOT, was putting up cones to warn drivers of an accident near I-70 and 291 Highway in September of 2012. A short time later, Murdick sped through the cones, hit Scott and killed him.
Court records say Murdick had a blood alcohol content twice the legal limit of .08.
Clifton’s sister, Xavier Estelle, was very close with her younger brother and says the whole family continues to hurt.
“Clifton, you know, means a lot to all of us, there’s a big void in our lives without him,” Estelle told FOX 4 earlier this week.
At the time of the crash, Murdick was working as an attorney in Kansas City.
