KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A judge sentenced a 51st Street Crips gang member to 30 years in federal prison on Thursday for weapons and drug convictions, and court testimony also revealed that authorities have connected Rashawn Long to five murders, including an execution-style killing of a KC mom and her daughter in 2013.
Long, 35, was convicted for possessing Bupherdrone and a firearm in August of 2014, a weapon he wasn’t allowed to have after pleading guilty to the 2001 murder of Michael Birks.
In the United States’ request for an upward sentence, court documents revealed that a Kansas City, Mo. detective was to testify that Long admitted to killing Myeisha Turner, and her 3-year-old daughter Damiah White in their KC home on August 23, 2013.
According to a news release, a federal agent testified that Long shot Kevin “Flip” Jones on September 20, 2013 in the driveway of his home.
An Overland Park detective also testified that Long was involved in a drive-by shooting where Raymon Thomas was killed with an AK-47 in Overland Park in July of 2013.
Long was arrested in October of 2013 for the drug and weapons charges after police were called to investigate a disturbance where a woman said a man she didn’t know was knocking on her door, and had parked his car in her backyard and left. Long returned when the officers were attempting to tow the car away, and said he had parked there before, and was trying to hide the car from his fiance. He was taken into custody for two outstanding warrants.
Upon investigation, officers found a backpack inside the car that had 5.67 grams of Bupherdrone, also known as bath salts, inside a false compartment stored in a Coca-Cola can, a digital camera that had at least two images of Long holding a Glock semi-automatic handgun, a stun gun, and a digital scale with residue on it.
Long is not eligible for parole during his current federal sentence. While he’s been implicated in four of the murders, the only one he’s been convicted of is the 2001 killing of Birks, and has only been charged for killing Jones. He is a person of interest in the Turner and White murders, but has not been charged.
That evidence was submitted to bolster the case for a longer sentence according to a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
