KANSAS CITY, Mo. — After much controversy, the historic New York City Marathon has been called off. That took runners here in the metro off guard.
New York City planned to hold tomorrow’s marathon despite the recent storm. However, that upset scores of people who say they’re still recovering after Hurricane Sandy pounded metropolitan New York this week..
Ken Moran from Kansas City is one of many runners who headed out when he heard the race was still on.
“The frustration was — why didn’t they just make the decision on Tuesday and just let everyone know that because of this storm, we aren’t going to do this,” Moran said on Saturday.
Angry runners say they spent thousands of dollars to take their families to New York City.
