KANSAS CITY, Mo – Kansas City International Airport passengers were shocked to hear what an airport police officer is being investigated for. Officials say the KCI police officer helped his friend sneak past security before his flight.
He’s now suspended and the target of a Transportation Security Administration investigation, details you’ll only see on FOX 4.
The KCI police chief told FOX 4’s Megan Brilley this is the first time in his 20 years at KCI that anything like this happened.
TSA says a KCI police officer helped a close friend sneak past security. The TSA says the two were caught right before the officer’s friend boarded, and that the officer’s friend was sent back to be screened before boarding the flight.
The officer was suspended and now both TSA and KCI are investigating.
FOX 4 spoke with some frequent flyers who were concerned to hear an officer who is supposed to be keeping them all safe, broke the rules they are forced to follow.
“Well they violated our trust in doing that,” frequent flyer Jean Cooper said.
“That’s very unexpected. You’re not expecting that from somebody that is supposed to protect you,” frequent flyer Miguel Diaz said.
The chief did want to do an interview, but said he wasn’t able to because this is a personnel matter. We’ve learned that officer was hired in 2007 as a bus driver and eventually moved up to become an officer in early 2012.
This employee is now suspended without pay pending further investigation.
