KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A Kansas City, Kansas, park is about to get a big makeover, as it’s soon to be home to a new memorial for the nation’s fallen warriors.
The groundbreaking date has yet to be set, but city leaders say that the memorial – set to be built near I-635 and I-70 – will be big, covering 20 acres of land and costing around $30 million.
The memorial will honor Gold Star Families, which are families who have lost someone on active duty in the military, dating back to the Gulf War.
The American Fallen Warrior Memorial Foundation says that the location was chosen because it sits high on a bluff and will be easily seen. It is expected to be complete by 2014.
