KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Mo., Police Department is making a move.
Its east patrol campus is moving to a new, bigger location, and it opens to the public Saturday.
The new east patrol campus is still under construction, but starting Saturday morning at 6 a.m., the doors open to the public.
The old east patrol station at 27th and Van Brunt closed to the public Thursday.
A banner on the outside of the building directs the public to another location. There are six to choose from, but on Saturday morning there will be seven.
Crews broke ground on the new east patrol campus two years ago on the $70 million project.
The campus consists of two buildings including a police station and a crime lab. It will be home to nearly 130 officers.
“It is built with technology that we need today versus what the station at Van Brunt was built for the technology needed way back then,” said Capt. Tye Grant with the Kansas City Police Department Police. “Work has changed. Law enforcement has changed. And the new campus is built with that in mind.”
The city plans to host an official grand opening on Dec. 1.
