KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The icy weather had many people in Kansas City, Kan. spending extra time clearing ice and snow off their vehicles, walkways, and driveways.
It took 83-year-old Margaret Lampe 45 minutes to clear her van of ice Saturday morning. She was on her way to the bank and post office.
“We’ve been out here for about 30 minutes, scraping, thanks to Mother Nature, she’s uh starts with a ‘B,’” said Lampe. “I don’t think there’s anything we can do about her though.”
George Dwight, a resident of Strawberry Hill, wasn’t as lucky.
“Woke up, tried to get the car cleaned off, tried to start it, wouldn’t start go ahead and take the battery out, and now it look like the battery’s gone,” said Dwight. “Can’t fight Mother Nature; just have to deal with it.”
We caught up with homeowner and Strawberry Hill resident John Tomasic after he spent a couple hours of shoveling. He has to clear all of this before Sunday’s big game.
“We got the Super Bowl tomorrow. It’s going to be a party; people are going to be walking on this sidewalk, and the snow blower doesn’t work in this heavy ice,” said Tomasic.
Those that call the historic strawberry hill neighborhood home are taking it in stride. But all have a message for Mother Nature.
“I don’t have any choice words but I hope this is the last of it for this year,” said Tomasic.
Not quite. She has another arctic blast in store for next week.
