KANSAS CITY, Mo. — What started as plans for an afternoon ride in a favorite car ended as a destroyed garage and burned home.
A car enthusiast who lives near 84th and Wabash started his 1975 Rolls Royce and came out to find it and the garage in flames.
Homeowner Tommie Lipsey said it all happened so fast, he ran outside in his pajamas at shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon. This is when he usually takes his prized possession for a spin.
Lipsey said he started the car and let it run in the garage and went back in the house. He was watching TV when he says a man drove down the street honking, screaming that something was wrong. That’s when Lipsey ran out, and found his car, garage, and part of his home in flames.
“I really don’t know what happened. Maybe there was malfunction with it or something, I don’t know. There’s a lot of stuff in there with meaning but my life meant more to me than anything else,” said Lipsey.
No one was hurt in the blaze and fire investigators will work to pin point the exact cause. Lipsey says cars are replaceable and he’s glad he’s walking away from this with his life.
