KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A seemingly “friendly” neighbor is now accused by a Kansas City, Mo., mother of crossing the line with her two daughters – paying them to watch him masturbate.
That mother, who asked we only identify her as Nikki for privacy reasons, talked exclusively with FOX 4 Thursday about the ordeal, which police are now investigating.
“Whatever we have to go through,” she said while fighting back tears, “we’re going to make sure that they feel comfortable, because no kid should ever have to feel unsafe in their own house –never.”
Nikki notified police after she said her next door neighbor stood in this window, exposed himself and masturbated in front of her 12 and 13-year-old daughters.
“It hurts a mother’s heart for her kids to have to see something like that,” she said. “It just hurts.”
Nikki’s family moved into the home just a few months ago, and found out after signing their lease that they were living beside a registered sex offender.
“Know where you live and know who you live next to,” she said in hindsight, “because it could be anybody.”
She talked to her kids and kept a watchful eye; but said the man seemed changed for the better, describing him as “friendly, a nice neighbor, even.”
“Then one night my daughter had money that couldn’t be explained,” she said.
It was money police said came from the 39-year-old man next door. The crime report shows the man secretly paid the sisters $5 to stand at their bedroom window facing his, expose themselves, and then watch him do the same.
But when the girls peered through their blinds and saw what was happening, they told their mom – who looked at their window and saw it for herself.
“Yeah, that was disturbing,” Nikki said. “It’s not fair for any child to have to experience something like that. It’s never fair.”
It is a scary situation that prompted her to deliver a cautionary message to other parents:
“Just know where you live,” she said, “and have an open line of communication with your kids where your kids feel comfortable enough to come to you and let you know what`s going on.”
After Nikki filed a police report, she said the suspect packed up and moved out of the house next door. Police are now searching for him for questioning in this case.
FOX 4 has confirmed the suspect’s sex offender status, but will not reveal his identity until he’s been charged in this crime.
