KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City, Missouri, woman said that she could only watch on Thursday morning after a strong gust of wind uprooted a massive tree in her East Side front yard, crushing her SUV.

“The Mayans were wrong, it was the end of my car.  We’re very lucky that’s all that happened,”  said a smiling Judy Maine.

Maine said it happened fast. The impact of the falling tree shattered the SUV’s windows and popped the gas cap open.

“The car kind of bounced and then it just sat there,” she said.  “It wasn’t loud at all, it was really shocking.”

She says that she was watching out of her window when the tree fell. If the tree had fallen in any other direction except her car, it would have landed on either her or her neighbor’s house.

“I’d be in a hospital because I was sitting on the couch by the window ,” she said.
