KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City, Mo, police officer faces corruption charges after he allegedly had sex with two women in return for not arresting them for prostitution and drug charges.
Officer Jeffrey Holmes, 47, has been charged with two felony counts of acceding to corruption, prosecutors announced on Monday. Prosecutors have requested a $250,000 cash-only bond.
According to prosecutors, Holmes is alleged to have had sex with a prostitute in a south Kansas City motel room March of 2012 in exchange for not placing them under arrest. A month later in April, Holmes allegedly had sex with another women in another south Kansas City motel room in exchange for not arresting her for possession of marijuana.
Detectives say an area motel had hired Holmes as an off-duty security officer to combat drugs, violence and prostitution.
Holmes was placed on administrative leave following the alleged April incident, and suspended with pay in May. Prosecutors say that Holmes turned himself in on Monday, and that he will be suspended without pay now that charges have been filed.
“You’re representing yourself as a police officers every time you’re in that uniform,” says Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters-Baker. “When someone misuses their authority, it cast a stain on all of us and what we do.”
Baker applauded the Kansas City Police Department for investigating the incidents as soon as they received a tip, and added that the department handled the case in a professional manner.
Holmes is a 13-year veteran of the KCPD, and had been assigned to the South Patrol Division.
