KANSAS CITY, Mo. — This summer’s heat wave has made it difficult for many metro residents to keep up with the cost of keeping their homes cool. So Kansas City Power and Light is expanding a program to help customers who are struggling to pay their power bills.
The utility company has announced that they have increased their funding for their Connections programs, which helps customers pay their power bills by expanding KCP&L’s flexible payment options and connects customers with community assistance programs.
According to KCP&L, the $1 million in extra funding is coming from the company’s shareholders.
Among the other programs, KCP&L said that they will double their corporate match to Dollar-Aide from $.50 to $1 for every $1 donated. The utility says that they are also partnering with the Salvation Army for the new Family Relief Fund, which provides qualifying families with up to a $150 credit on their KCP&L bills during the summer months.
