NEWARK, N.J. — In the 2012 NBA Draft on Thursday night, Kansas Jayhawks junior forward Thomas Robinson was selected 5th overall by the Sacramento Kings.

Robinson was a First Team All-American his junior season, averaging 17.7 points and 11.9 rebounds a game. The 6-9 power forward and Washington D.C. native helped lead the Jayhawks to the NCAA National Championship Game.

Robinson, a sixth man for KU last year, was named Big 12 Player of the Year. He was also a finalist for National Player of the Year. After leading the Jayhawks to an eighth consecutive Big 12 regular season title, he became the 14th player in the Bill Self era to be selected in the NBA draft.

Kentucky Wildcats freshman center and National Player of the Year Anthony Davis was selected 1st overall by the New Orleans Hornets. His teammate, forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, went 2nd overall to the Charlotte Bobcats.

The two fab freshman helped lift a ferocious Kentucky squad over Kansas in the NCAA National Championship Game.
