LAWRENCE, Kan. – Police were dispatched to an armed robbery at a specialty grocery store in Lawrence Saturday night.

Just before 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, Lawrence police officers we called to an armed robbery that took place at La Tiendita, a small specialty grocery store located at 3022 Iowa St. However, once officers arrived to the location, the suspect had already fled the scene.

The clerk of the store told officers that a man with a handgun had entered the store and demanded money. The store employee said he complied with the suspect’s wishes and gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash from the register.

The clerk described the suspect as a Hispanic male, about 5’8” tall and 150 lbs, and said he was wearing a black beanie hat, black sweatshirt, and a jean jacket. He said the suspect only spoke in Spanish during the encounter.
