LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — The mother of a two-month-old boy was charged Friday with Aggravated Endangerment of a Child after the infant was found abandoned in a stroller.

Police said Elizabeth Michaud, 28, is being held in the Leavenworth County Jail and is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Police said Michaud’s two-month-old son was reported missing on Thursday. Police searched for two hours before a woman returning from Bible study found him around 10 p.m. in his stroller in an alley about three blocks from his home.

According to police, the child’s mother was under the influence of drugs when the baby disappeared. The baby’s father returned home from work after police arrived on the scene. He was questioned and released.

The baby was taken to an area hospital for observation, but authorities say he appears to be okay. The baby and another two-year-old child have now been placed in police protective custody.

The case remains under investigation.
