LEE’S SUMMIT — The late morning, early afternoon thunderstorm that moved through the metro on Thursday has reportedly knocked down several power lines.

Residents in Lee’s Summit are most affected.

Several lines are down there, according to the KCP&L website and a fire department dispatcher. KCP&L is currently working to restore power and clear downed lines according to a spokeswoman.

It’s uncertain if those power lines are still ‘live’ with electricity, but the recent electrocution of a man in Kansas City, Kan., has reminded many of the dangers.

On Sunday, June 20, Nicholas Moeder died when he stepped on a live power line operated by the Kansas City Board of Utilities (BPU) at Rosedale Park. Power had been knocked down during a storm.

On Thursday, 16 percent of the KCP&L customers are without power. Approximately 1,100 customers are in Lee’s Summit.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department confirmed trees, fences and signs were damaged in the storm.
