LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. – Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a man who approached two girls, ages 11 and 12, and exposed himself to them while they were out walking.

Police said the incident happened near NW Ward Road and NW Carroll Drive around 6:45 p.m. on Monday, October 6.  The two girls said they were walking from one girl’s house to the other, when a man pulled up next to them and said something vulgar. Once he had their attention, he exposed himself from his vehicle and began touching himself and performing a lewd act, then drove away.

“That’s the fear of every parent, every police officer is that, is this just a testing the waters type behavior and the next thing you know we have someone grabbing a kid off a sidewalk because that has happened too many times,” said Sgt. Chris Depue with the Lee’s Summit Police Department.

The two girls described the man as heavy set, with short, dark hair and wearing a blue t-shirt.  They said the man was driving a dark colored, four-door passenger car.

David Atterberry lives at the intersection where the incident happened. He says he didn’t see anything but will pay more attention to the teenagers in the neighborhood.

“I’ve been living in this neighborhood for 25 years and I’ve never heard of that so it’s really a shock,” he said. “They are right over here in this corner house there’s two teenage girls, there’s three or four that live around the block. They get on the school bus out here every morning right on that corner.”

The Lee’s Summit Police Department is asking for residents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious vehicles and/or persons.  The police department is working alongside the R-7 School District to make sure parents are notified of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the LSPD TIPS Hotline at 816-969-1752.
