LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — The Lee Summit West football team had to play their first game without one of their star players. Center Jacob Williamson told his coach he didn’t feel well then collapsed at practice.
He was sent to an intensive care unit in serious condition. FOX 4’s Megan Brilley spoke with him. He’s feeling much better and is out of the ICU.
Doctors told him he suffered from a serious heat stroke. Even though his teammates played their first game of the season without Jacob Friday night, they’re happy to hear he’s improving.
Jacob was in very serious condition– in the ICU. Friday he was tweeting and cheering on his team from the hospital and Friday night the cheerleaders and players want to do the same for him.
“We all hope he gets better soon. We’ve seen things on twitter about what happened and we have all been praying,” freshman Ally Marriott said.
“I hope he gets well we are all praying for him. He’s a part of this family. We just hope he can get back on that field. Be out under these lights and have his name called out in the crowd. It’d be really special if he could come play with us,” freshman JV player Aaron Stepanek said.
Parents say the team made a card for Jacob and took it to him in the hospital. Jacob says he’s still got a ways to go but is working hard to get back out on the field.
