KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Operation Guardian Angel netted an arrest and charge for a sex crime against a man after he allegedly told an undercover detective he wanted to commit sex acts against two minors. According to an affidavit, John J. McCarthy, 24, contacted a woman who he believed to be the mother of two children who was in fact a Kansas City police officer. McCarthy has been charged with child exploitation, a federal crime.

The affidavit said that McCarthy contacted the detective through a social Web site in addition to exchanging text messages and e-mails, reportedly saying he wanted to teach her two young daughters how to satisfy a man. She responded and said that she wanted to meet him first.

On July 29 the detective met McCarthy in a public place and he described the sexual acts he intended to do with the children, who were described as a 16-year-old and 12-year-old. He proceeded to say that he wanted to do it as soon as the next day and would pay $50 in exchange.

On July 30 McCarthy contacted the detective to set a meeting up and arranged a time and place. He was directed to an apartment and allegedly showed the detective lubrication and gave her $60. He was said to have wanted to perform both oral and vaginal sex.

The detective then told McCarthy that the 12-year-old was in a bedroom, when McCarthy opened the door and walked through, KCPD officers were inside and arrested him.

McCarthy is currently being held at the Kansas City Police Department according to online court records, he’s expected to appear in court on August 1. Operation Guardian Angel targets the demand for child sex trafficking in the Kansas City metro area.
