LIBERTY, Mo. – A USPS letter carrier is among three people arrested on Thursday as part of a suspected burglary ring along the letter carrier’s route in rural Clay County.

Authorities allege that 55-year-old letter carrier Pamela McKown would act as a spotter, looking for residents on her route who weren’t home, then alert Cristen Fisher, 37, and Rickey Sloan, 51, who would then break in to the homes and steal electronics and other valuables. Investigators say that the trio stashed the stolen items at Fisher’s Excelsior Springs home.

One of the alleged victims of the trio is 91-year-old Edward Massey, a decorated WWII fighter pilot, who lost around $25,000 worth of items from his home, including his late wife’s antique dolls, antique furniture and some of Massey’s military memorabilia.

“I feel sorry for her for being so stupid, but you pay for your mistakes,” said Massey of his former letter carrier. “Her DNA was all over the place. Well, how dumb can you get?”

Massey’s son, Dana Massey, says that the letter carrier’s betrayal of trust is offensive.

“It offends you. Here’s someone you consider to have a fiduciary trust in, your mail person, that’s right up there with your banker, your doctor,” said Dana Massey.

Investigators say that the trio, suspected in at least 11 break-ins, sold the stolen items to support their methamphetamine habits.

Edward Massey, who has since moved in with his son, says that he is glad that he got most of his treasured belongings back.

“it’s kind of a dumb thing to do. Do smart things,” said Massey with a laugh.
