The American Red Cross opened three shelters last evening for people affected by power outages caused by the winter storm, but few used them. The locations of each and its current status are as follows:

Kansas City, Mo.
Southeast Community Center
4201 E. 63rd St.
Kansas City, Mo.

Volunteers were ready at the site, but by midnight zero residents had arrived so the shelter was closed.  A sign was put on the door to call Red Cross at 816-931-8400 and press “1” to reach an on-call emergency services person if anyone arrived for shelter after midnight. There is currently no one at this shelter location.

Franklin County:
Pomona Community Center
219 W. Jefferson
Pomona, KS
12 people spent the night

Anderson County:
Garnett VFW Hall
1507 S. Elm St.
Garnett, KS
CLOSED – no people arrived and the decision was made to close. People may still call Red Cross if needed, but the decision of the county emergency manager is that this shelter was no longer needed
