KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Dozens of metro couples were married and renewed their vows Saturday; all at the same church! And, the love birds didn’t have to pay a thing.
It’s a Valentine’s Day tradition at Unity Temple on the Country Club Plaza.
“Couples are coming in and they’re really… you can just absolutely feel the love in the air,” said Associate Minister Janet Nima Taylor.
Over the past 15 years on Valentine’s Day Unity Temple has officiated hundreds of marriages and vow renewals for free.
“It is so wonderful to be surrounded by a group of people who want to get married and may not have the resources,” said Taylor.
Bob and Diane Berg celebrated a relationship milestone Saturday.
“We’re here to renew our vows, it’s our 20th anniversary,” said Bob Berg.
Between three sanctuaries and three ministers Unity Temple planned to perform 50 ceremonies Saturday. All perfectly orchestrated in 30 minutes or less!
“You really have a chance to come in make the space your own and be married before you get rushed out for the next couple coming in!,” said Taylor.
This Valentine’s Day is a historic one for Unity Temple. Saturday was the first Valentine’s Day it’s ever officiated same sex marriages.
