KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Clay County sheriff’s deputy was hurt during a police chase Wednesday afternoon.
Around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a Clay County sheriff’s deputy was near the intersection of NE Parvin Road and NE Chaumiere Road on his way to an area school to work as a school resource deputy. At the same time Kansas City, Missouri police officers were assisting the Clay County Sheriff’s Department with the pursuit of a suspect’s vehicle through the intersection.
Deputies said the suspect, who was wanted in connection to a string of ATM thefts, had been trying to elude police by taking back roads in the area. A KCPD helicopter unit located the suspect as he made his way through three yards and one fence. During the chase the suspect, struck the school resource deputy’s patrol car, injuring him, and then drove on.
As a result, the deputy was taken to the hospital with minor injuries from the crash. According to the sheriff’s department the deputy wasn’t directly involved in the chase, but just happen to be in the area. The suspect continued to flee officers until he was later caught and arrested.
