GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. — Police and investigators from the Children’s Division of Missouri are looking into accusations that a Grain Valley elementary school teacher touched a student inappropriately.

A police report was filed on behalf of the child on Jan. 9. The report says the alleged molestation happened Jan. 6 at Prairie Branch Elementary School, 2100 N. Dillingham Rd.

The child, whose age and sex have not been released, was at a hockey game in Independence, Mo. on Jan. 6 and described the teacher as “huggy” and claimed the teacher sometimes rubbed students’ tummies. The police officer taking the report says the child was uncomfortable when describing the events with the teacher. When the child returned home from the police station, the child allegedly admitted that the teacher had touched the child’s genitals through clothing.

Parents at Grain Valley contacted the school expressing concern about the allegations. The district sent out a letter Tuesday morning to all its employees to explain the actions underway.

The letter stated that the teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation. Neither the police nor the school released the teacher’s name or sex. The teacher has not been arrested.

Representatives from the Children’s Division are leading the investigation, which usually takes 30-45 days to complete.
