JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – A man claims he slashed the throats of two puppies because they were sick. According to affiliate KTVI’s Anthony Kiekow, that man was not charged with animal abuse or cruelty, but rather, two counts of littering.
Kyle Busby, 22, faces two misdemeanor counts according to court documents stemming from the incident in August. A warrant was issued for Busby’s arrest when he failed to appear for an October court hearing related to the charges. Police originally found the dogs in a creek while investigating a separate incident.
KTVI’s attempts to speak with Busby were unsuccessful when they went to his home and prosecutors were not available for comment on Tuesday. Members of the animal rescue community are appalled with Busby’s actions and upset with only misdemeanor charges.
“That is animal abuse too. If that happened, it should be a felony,” Randy Grim with Stray Rescue of St. Louis told KTVI.
Grim also said that sick animals should be taken to a rescue shelter or humane society to receive proper treatment.
