KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A smash and grab may be one of the worst crimes of its kind in Kansas City. Major damage was done when someone smashed a pick-up truck through the front doors of Gordman’s Department store.

The driver jumped out of the truck and grabbed everything he could get his hand on. The suspect only spent about two minutes in the store. It would’ve likely been less if his truck hadn’t gotten stuck in the process.

“Officers responded out there on an alarm call and upon arrival noticed the whole front of the store was caved in,” said Sgt. Rod Gentry with Kansas City Police. “Some type of vehicle had driven through it.”

Police say it was urgent to find someone who did so much damage with no regard.

“It’s absolutely important, if he’s willing to do this store, it’s not so much the items he stole, that’s bad enough 700-$800 worth of clothes, but $70-80,000 in damage to commit crime, we definitely need to get him,” Sgt. Gentry said.

On Tuesday afternoon, police found the suspect and the truck near 43rd and Benton. Officers found Gordman’s tags in the bed of the truck and on the ground. Charges are expected as early as Wednesday.
