LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — Police arrested a man as he was seeking treatment at the hospital for a stab wound, one that police believe he received when he was breaking into a Lee’s Summit home Thursday night, Dec. 11.
At approximately 8:00 p.m that night, officers with the Lee’s Summit Police Department were called to the 400 block of NW Ambersham Drive on the report of a burglary that had just occurred.
When officers arrived the man told them he had been home with his wife and child when he heard loud knocking at his front door, followed by a muffled bang from the rear of his home. The man says he was coming out of an upstairs bedroom when he saw two men enter the home from the garage area and begin to come upstairs. As the suspects came upstairs, the man confronted the men and stabbed one of them in the neck. The suspects then fled the home and left in a vehicle.
The man called police.
A short time later a suspect entered an area hospital seeking treatment for a stab wound.
The man was idenfied as James D. Jones, 26, of Kansas City, Missouri. James has been charged in Jackson County Court with 1st degree burglary and bond was set at $25,000. Police are working to identify the second suspect in the case who remains at large.
Police say James told them they chose the house because they thought no one was home at the time.
