KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City man faces murder charges after allegedly stabbing and killing another man at a party on the city’s East Side.

Emil E. Roberts, 21, has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the stabbing death of 21-year-old Deshon Hawkins outside an apartment in the 10500 block of East 42nd Street around 3:15 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

According to court documents, police say that Roberts and Hawkins got into an argument over Roberts’ girlfriend. Authorities say that Roberts admitted stabbing Hawkins in the chest with a kitchen knife with a long blade, then went back inside the apartment to wash off the knife in a sink.

Roberts is in custody in the Jackson County Jail. Prosecutors have requested $150,000 bond.
