OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – One person was taken to an area hospital in critical condition and later died after a house fire on Saturday.
Crews from the Overland Park Fire, Consolidated Fire District #2 and the Johnson County Med-Act were called to the scene of a house fire shortly after 9 a.m. on Saturday. The fire, which took place at a residence, located in the 103rd block of Reeds Road in Overland Park, left one man with fatal injuries.
Crews reported heavy smoke coming from the home when they first arrived on the scene. Firefighters pulled one man, who was badly burned, from the family room area of the home. He was then transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.
According to a news release from the Overland Park Fire Department, firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, which appeared to have started near to where the victim was found. The home’s main floor suffered damage from the fire and the rest of the house had heavy smoke damage.
No one else was reported as injured and the cause of the blaze is being investigated. The call to 911 reporting the fire came from a neighbor who noticed smoke coming from the home.
