KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man is dead after an intense stand-off with Kansas City, Mo., police early Friday morning. It started just after midnight with a phone call from inside the residence of 515 E. 129th Terrace, near Blue Ridge.
A source close to the investigation told FOX 4 that man called saying: Send police officers over. I have something for them. There’s going to be a shooting. The man then hung up.
Kansas City Police Captain Tye Grant said when police arrived a man standing outside the home fired shots. He said they evacuated about half-a-dozen homes in the area and told people to stay inside and to go down to their basements.
The suspect barricaded himself inside the house. Grant said during negotiations the suspect fired several shots at police officers and cars. No officers were injured, although several cars were hit. Grant said at one point one of the tactical officers noticed him pointing a gun at fellow officers from a window. An officer fired at the man. A source close to the investigation told FOX 4 police fired tear gas into the home and then sent a camera inside and found the man dead.
Grant said it’s not clear at this point if the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound or from an officer. The identity of the man has not yet been released.
