KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Urgent repairs to the Manchester bridge will close the left and center lanes of both eastbound and westbound traffic along I-70.
The Missouri Department of Transportation said it’s averaging one repair every four months since 2010. Earlier this year the bridge was closed in March when a concrete overlay, applied last fall, started to crack in the center lane. The bridge needed several more repairs after that.
This time, crews have identified 12 places in the center lane that need repaired.
“We’re going to mark out the location that we need to work on it,” said Terry Stowell, MoDOT bridge inspection technician. “We’re going to make full depth patch repair, which is where we’re going to take the jackhammers and go right through the deck, get out all the crumble concrete, form it back up and pour back with new concrete.”
Stowell said the Manchester bridge is the victim of a lot of traffic. In 2008, MoDOT listed it as one of the top 10 work zones to look out for.
