INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Marcus Benson, the boyfriend of the mother who faces felony charges after her 10-year-old daughter was found locked in a closet, is in custody. Police said Benson was taken into custody around 8 p.m. Thursday in Independence, Mo. He was found hiding in the attic of a home.

Authorities said Kansas City police received a tip on Benson’s whereabouts and notified Independence police. Officers from Independence located Benson in the attic of a home and took him into custody.

Benson and Jacole Prince, the girl’s mother, both face felony child endangerment charges. In early July, Prince’s 10-year-old daughter was found locked in a furnace closet. Investigators she was severely malnourished, dirty and under weight, weighing only 32 pounds.

Prince is expected to appear in court Aug. 9.
